The Paramount in Huntington is one of the better mid-size music venues in the whole tri-state area. It holds around 1,500 people and books touring rock, pop and comedy acts. The room is small enough that even the cheaper seats put you close to the stage.

Check the calendar at paramountny.com before you plan anything else for the evening. The shows sell out faster than you'd expect. A pre-show dinner on Main Street in Huntington first rounds it out into a full night.

Stand-up comedy at Governor's Comedy Club, Levittown

Governor's Comedy Club has been running in Levittown since 1985 and books national touring acts most weekends. It's the kind of room where you're ten feet from the performer and the drinks come out during the set.

There is a two-item minimum at the tables. Shows run on Friday and Saturday nights, and bigger headliners often play an early and a late set. The late shows fill up quickly, so book a few days ahead.

Cooking class at The Cook's Studio, Mineola

The Cook's Studio in Mineola runs hands-on cooking classes where you make a full meal from scratch and then sit down to eat it. The stations are set up for two, so it works naturally as a date, and most classes last about two hours.

Outside drinks aren't allowed, but wine and beer are sold on site. Check the Mineola class calendar for dates before you plan the rest of the evening.

A wine country afternoon out east

The tasting rooms out on the East End are a good afternoon if you have a free Saturday and like the idea of a drive. Several of them do food alongside the wine, and the countryside genuinely does not feel like the same island as the Expressway.

Be honest with yourself about the distance before you commit to it. The East End wine country starts about 50 miles from Hicksville, roughly an hour's drive each way, so this is a whole Saturday rather than an evening, and someone has to stay under the limit for the drive home. Make your own wine at wineUdesign, Hicksville

You're making the same kind of decisions a winemaker makes at the tank, just compressed into about 90 minutes with glasses in front of you. Sunset sailing out of Port Jefferson

Crewed sailing charters run out of Port Jefferson Harbor in the warmer months, including two-hour sunset sails on the Long Island Sound. Prices vary by boat and season, so check with the charter before you plan the evening around it.

It is slower than most options here, which is the whole appeal for some couples. Open water, no real reason to check your phone, and time to have an actual conversation.

Escape room at The Great Escape Room, Syosset

The Great Escape Room on Michael Drive in Syosset, just off Jericho Turnpike, runs every room privately, so if you book for two, it is just the two of you. Rooms last 60 minutes, and you should allow about an hour and a half for the whole visit.

Some rooms need at least three players, so pick one that takes two when you book. The Haunted Hotel, which opened in 2026, is one of them.
